NSW Vulnerable Persons Food Safety Scheme Regulation

On 18th August 2008 a new food safety law commenced in NSW, bringing into existence a Vulnerable Persons Food Safety Scheme Regulation. The law applies to businesses that process or serve food to vulnerable persons, including organisations such as hospitals, aged care facilities, same-day aged care services, respite services and certain delivered meal organisations such as Meals on Wheels. These businesses now need to hold a NSW Food Authority licence and have an audited food safety program in place.

Further information can be obtained by visiting the NSW Food Authority’s website or contacting the Authority’s Helpline on 1300 552 406 or emailing contact@foodauthority.nsw.gov.au. The website also has a Manual available that explains the new requirements in detail.
