Residential aged care services are funded by the Commonwealth Government, along with resident contributions. They are subject to Commonwealth, State/Territory and Local Government regulations. There are two main categories:
(1) high care (often known as nursing homes); and
(2) low care (hostels). Many facilities are now offering ‘ageing-in-place’ where people remain in situ as additional services are provided as their needs increase.
In this section you will be able to access the latest information on the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI), accreditation and schedule fo fees and charges and more.
You will also find ACS policy statements on residential care issues, eg Guidelines on Medication Management in Residential Aged Care Facilities, Compulsory Reporting as well as resources such as assessment tools and pandemic flu. ACS submissions prepared in response to government inquiries (both State and Commonwealth) are also available.
